Diane & Co.
Welcome to Diane & Co., located at 1152 N. Main St., Fuquay-Varina, NC 27526. We are a women's fine clothing & accessories boutique, designed to "empower your image to empower yourself".
Diane Blalock has always had an eye for fashion and good sense as a businessperson. So, why would she open up a high-end clothing store during a nationwide economic recession? Blalock said she wants to stick out her tongue at the current economy. Small businesses like hers are what the United States needs right now. “That’s what’s going to build America back,” Blalock said. She opened Diane and Company, which sells upper line women’s clothing sizes 4 to 18, accessories and luggage earlier this month. Blalock owned a similar store called Diane’s in the Winn Dixie shopping center for seven years. She also owned Diane’s for seven years in Garner where she grew up. She said each of the stores personified a period of her life. One store had a country them while another had more modern décor. Now, the purple carpet and crystal chandeliers give Diane and Company a sense of royalty. She has already seen many of her former customers who couldn’t wait for Blalock’s return to clothing retail. Fuquay-Varina Chamber of Commerce President Dave Morris welcomed Blalock back into the Fuquay community as a member of the retail community. Blalock said she prefers working in Fuquay, where she has lived for 18 years, rather than other places because of the tight-knit community’s support. “It’s a great place to build a business,” she said. Fuquay-Varina’s Mayor John Byrne is happy to see the economic crisis didn’t deter Blalock from opening the store at Street of Dreams on Main Street. The whole package While ladies can come in and pick out a single item, Blalock said she loves to help women dress from head to toe. “I like to put the whole thing together,” she said. She calls it empowering a woman’s image. Blalock said she enjoys helping customers pick out items they wouldn’t normally try on and give their wardrobe a little pizzazz. With the brightly colored pieces from the six different clothing lines Blalock sells, pizzazz is no problem. The zebra print that trims the front windows and the red crocodile printed luggage on display should be a dead giveaway to Blalock’s inner fashionista. Two of the clothing lines are from her past retail experiences. Four other lines are completely new to her. For routine customers, Blalock said she could always offer special help to husbands and other family members. Customers can either pick out what they like and Blalock can have it put aside for a family member to pick up as a gift or Blalock can help pick out something she knows the specific customer will love as a present. The necklaces, earrings and rings in showcases on either side of the cash register are all custom made as well. The middle to upper-end styles may cost from $30 for a pocketbook to $250 for a dress, but Blalock said she offers one of a kind service to her customers. |
